The TWMB Public Action Strategy
Modeled on the success of the Back to Sleep-SIDS Awareness Campaign, TWMB is employing a public action campaign to create change in parental behavior to reach all babies. Specific influence is being directed at eliminating the achievement gap among children who have, for generations, experienced a lack of access to early language development and, consequently, not achieved reading proficiency by the end of third grade.
Georgia Department of Public Health, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, Georgia Department of Education, Marcus Autism Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Atlanta Speech School, Georgia Institute for Technology, Strong for Life, Emory School of Nursing, and the Atlanta Speech School are creating a targeted awareness and education campaign and distributable collateral materials designed to reinforce the messages that families will be hearing in their interactions with the TWMB-trained providers and caregivers.
In addition, TWMB resources include an easy-to-use smartphone application that supports parents and caregivers in delivering age-appropriate language nutrition to their children.
